Lack of venture capital for technology firm’s boosts mbg Sachesen-Anhalt
State funded institutes Bürgschaftsbank (bb) and Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft (mbg) Sachsen-Anhalt have together invested EUR 105m of early-stage and expansion finanancing in local busiesses. The backing of bb and mbg allowed a total of EUR 341m to be invested in the respective companies. bb invested EUR 75m via 375 loans (compared to EUR 337m and 65 loans in 2001) while mbg supplied some EUR 30m in equity via 46 investments (compared to EUR 14.8m via 27 investments in 2001). The increase in value and volume is understood to result in a lack of venture capital available and a large number of technology orientated businesses that were in need of financing. mbg Sachsen-Anhalt has increased its investments from EUR 9.5m in 2000 by more than EUR 30m in 2002 with a focus on industrial businesses.
