WestKB takes stake in MicroVenture
WestKB-Westdeutsche Kapitalbeteiligungsgesellschaft mbh, a subsidiary of WestLB Westdeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale, has acquired an equity stake in the Cologne-based MicroVenture GmbH & Co. KGaA. The cooperation between WestKB and MicroVenture will provide companies specialising in microsystem- and nanotechnology with ‘service capital’. The partnership will be able to structure a broad range of transactions in these technology segments either with venture capital or private equity. In addition, the participating portfolio companies will receive comprehensive consulting and coaching services. MicroVenture is a venture capital company which focuses on early-stage financing of companies in the microsystem and nanotechnology markets and can provide up to DM 5m in equity for a single transaction. The current investment portfolio comprises nine companies including Duisburg-based NanoFocus Messtechnik GmbH which already holds patents on technology capable of building nano and micro-structures three dimensionally and Surface Imaging Systems from Herzogenrath, which produces microscopes capable of focusing in a way that previously could only be done using very expensive electronic microscopes. Fritz Koop and Timo Krempe structured the deal on behalf of WestKB. Karlheinz Müller will join the company’s board to represent the new investor’s interests.
