Goodwin hires Shearman’s Carli for Munich PE team

Law firm Goodwin has hired Shearman and Sterling leveraged finance partner Winfried Carli to join its Munich-based private equity practice.
Carli had been with Shearman since 2000 and had been a partner since 2009, according to LinkedIn. He has experience in national and cross-border mandates, advising sponsors, debt funds, banks and corporates.
Goodwin has offices in Frankfurt and Munich in Germany. The firm hired former Kirkland & Ellis, DLA Piper and Sidley Austin partner Jan Schinköth in May 2021 to bolster its PE practice. He now chairs Goodwin’s Munich office, which offcially opened earlier this year.
Goodwin has now added eight partners to its teams in Germany over the past year, including Carli. PE partner Florian Hirschmann joined from Reed Smith, while Joachim Kayser and Sebastan Bruchwitz joined Goodwin's private investment funds practice from Dechert.
