HIG Europe backs DSD
Private equity firm HIG Europe has backed the MBO of recycling specialist Duales System Deutschland with a significant investment.
The investors are planning to grow the company internationally in the recycling sector and add new services focusing on sustainability and environmental protection. HIG Europe was attracted to DSD because of its pioneering work in developing recycling solutions.
DSD has developed the "Der Gruene Punkt"-brand, a take-back service for waste packaging cooperating with municipal waste collection in Germany. The recycling business was founded in 1991 in Cologne and operates facilities in Berlin, Norderstedt and Augsburg. DSD had a turnover of more than €600m in 2010 and has a client base with some 18,000 customers.
