Oaktree lifts Beluga Shipping with major investment
Oaktree Capital Management has committed €200m to support the German operator of heavy-lift vessels Beluga Shipping.
No details of the equity stake taken as part of the deal have been released, though Oaktree's principal investment strategy in Europe is typically to seek equity positions that result in substantial influence, control or total ownership.
Beluga, headed by founder/owner Niels Stolberg, is one of the world's largest operators of heavy-lift ships. It operates a fleet of some 70 vessels that provide specialist cargo services as well as heavy-lift functions for the offshore wind farm and construction segments.
