Milbank hires Clifford Chance's Stengel
Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy has appointed former Clifford Chance corporate advisory head Arndt Stengel as partner.
The law firm is said to be bolstering its Frankfurt office, which now has six partners. Milbank's Munich office already has a team of 20.
Stengel became a partner at Clifford Chance in 1995, where he worked on deals in the consumer goods and retail, energy and resources, banking, and industrial sectors.
He was promoted to head of corporate advisory in 2010 and moved from Clifford Chance's Frankfurt office to its Munich office at the start of last year. Peter Dieners was promoted to replace Stengel in the firm's Frankfurt office, but Dieners has since left the post.
While at Clifford Chance, Stengel was involved in a number of deals. Notably, he advised CVC Capital Partners on its acquisition of Ruhrgas Industries from E.ON Ruhrgas for around €1.5bn in July 2005.
Earlier this month, Clifford Chance lost Oliver Felsensten to Latham & Watkins in another high-profile departure. He succeeded Peter Dieners in the post of head of corporate advisory in September last year.
Milbank was founded in New York in 1866. The firm opened its Frankfurt office in 2001, while the Munich office followed in 2004.
In January, it advised General Atlantic on the merger of Flixbus and MeinFernbus.
