
Vodafone et al. invest €6.5m in Qype
Vodafone Ventures, Advent Venture Partners, Partech International and Wellington Partners have invested €6.5m in German internet company Qype.
Newcomer Vodafone Ventures led the round with a €3.5m contribution; the three existing investors provided the remaining €3m.
Qype will use the capital to develop its mobile business. As part of the investment agreement, Vodafone devices such as Blackberry and Android phones will be pre-loaded with a co-branded version of Qype Mobile.
Founded in Hamburg in 2005, Qype is a local search and recommendation website that features reviews on places, local services and businesses written by users. Qype covers more than 158,000 European towns and cities and has 17 million unique visitors per month.
