General Atlantic names Achim Berg as operating partner
Achim Berg has been appointed operating partner in General Atlantic’s Munich office.
Berg will take up his new role on 1 April 2016. He is the former CEO of Bertelsmann subsidiary Arvato, a company that provides digital marketing, financial services and customer relationship management, among other services. Berg will particularly focus on the technology and business services sectors, providing advice to General Atlantic's global portfolio companies.
From 2000-2001, Berg was managing director at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, then became a member of the board of Deutsche Telekom for five years. He held various roles at Microsoft from 2007-2013.
General Atlantic's German operations have been headed by Jörn Nikolay since 2012. In January 2015, the GP took a majority stake in both Munich-based Flixbus and Berlin-based MeinFernbus, the two largest coach company startups launched in recent years, with the aim of building a pan-European bus network.
