Metropolitan buys part of German Pellets
New York-based Metropolitan Equity Partners has acquired one of fuel producer German Pellets' factories.
The acquisition comes after the company went into administration in February this year, following a failed refinancing. After a safeguarding solution for the entire group could not be found, the business was broken up.
Metropolitan has acquired German Pellets' headquarters in Wismar, which will now operate as newco Wismar Pellets.
J Rettenmaier & Söhne, a Baden-Wuerttemberg-based producer of fibres for chemical and industrial purposes, took over the factories in Ettenheim and Herbrechtingen. The future of German Pellets' Torgau-based site remains uncertain, but is expected to be decided by the end of May.
Company
Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Wismar, German Pellets is a producer of wood pellets. It also manufactures animal hygiene products such as wood pellet litter. The business has 300 employees.
