
Horizons Ventures leads $40m series-B for Number26
Chinese billionaire Li Ka-Shing’s Horizons Ventures has led a $40m series-B for Berlin-based mobile banking business Number26 alongside Battery Ventures.
The round also introduced private investors Robert Gentz, David Schneider and Rubin Ritter to Number26's group of investors. Existing backers Valar Ventures, Earlybird Ventures and Redalpine Ventures re-upped in the series-B.
With the fresh funding in hand, Number26 will seek to expand its geographic reach and integrate additional banking products into its existing offering.
Including its $40m series-B, the startup has raised in excess of $52m across three funding rounds.
Previous funding
According to unquote" data, Number26 first raised institutional funding in June 2014, attracting €2m from Earlybird and Redalpine.
The initial fundraising was followed by a series-A in April 2015, when the company raised a further €10m from Earlybird, Redalpine and Valar – the VC fund of eBay founder Peter Thiel.

Based in Berlin, Number26 is a mobile banking platform for consumers, centred around an app. The company was founded in 2013 and currently claims 200,000 customers in eight European markets.
