Carlyle acquires software business Exocad
Carlyle Group has acquired a majority stake in German business Exocad, which develops software for the dental industry.
Fraunhofer Venture will completely exit its stake in Exocad, while the founders continue to hold a stake in the company.
Carlyle hopes to extend the company's customer base and to bring Exocad's software to new markets.
The GP invested via Carlyle Europe Technology Partners III, its €657m vehicle focused on European technology, media and telecommunications companies. It is the fund's seventh investment.
Company
Exocad is headquartered in Darmstadt and has five offices worldwide. The company, which develops dental computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing software, was spun out of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD in 2010. Exocad claims to sell its products in 120 countries.
