Project A invests in 3i-backed Lampenwelt
Venture capital firm Project A has provided co-investment of an undisclosed value to 3i portfolio company Lampenwelt.
Alongside its investment, Project A will contribute operational capabilities in digital marketing and product management.
It is the third co-investment alongside private equity that the VC has made, having invested in EQT portfolio company Kfzteile24 in March 2016 and Bregal Unternehmerkapital's Onlineprinters.
Previous funding
3i acquired Lampenwelt for an equity investment of €120m in March 2017. A key element of the strategic plan at the time was investment in the company's online platform. The GP also provided a €54m loan to support the buyout, which it planned to refinance after completion.
Company
Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Schiltz, near Frankfurt, Lampenwelt is a producer and retailer of lighting products. The business distributes own-brand and third-party products across 12 countries, and employs 300 people.
Lampenwelt generated revenues of €61m in 2016, according to a statement issued by 3i, of which 45% came from exports.
