Emeram sells Hussel to Arko
Munich-based buyout firm Emeram Capital Partners has sold confectionery chain Hussel to industrial holding company Arko.
The sale ends a four-and-a-half-year holding period for Emeram, which acquired the business with capital from its Emeram Fond I, a €350m vehicle that held a final close in January 2015.
The combined group will employ 2,000 people at 450 locations in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Portugal. Arko already owns the brands Arko and Eilles.
Hussel employed around 1,000 people at the time of Emeram's original investment and this has grown to 1,117 during the holding period. Turnover has remained relatively stable, falling from €97.6m in 2015 to €96.8m in 2017, according to a corporate information portal.
Previous funding
Hussel was carved out of the then Advent International-backed Douglas Holding in March 2014. Douglas Holding was divested in a secondary buyout to CVC Capital Partners in June 2015.
Company
Founded in 1949 in Hagen, Hussel is a confectionery retailer that focuses on stores in city locations with high purchasing power. As well as its own Hussel brand, the company sells the products of chosen partners, such as Lindt, Hachez and Niederegger.
