Inception sells Penta to Finleap
Inception Capital has fully exited the Germany-based banking platform Penta, while Finleap has acquired a stake in the company.
The remaining shareholders of Penta are its founding members and Finleap.
Founding CEO of Penta Lav Odorovic will take on a role as shareholder. The management team of Penta will now be formed by co-founder and chief customer officer Jessica Holzbach and co-founder and chief of staff Luka Ivicevic, as well as chief product officer Lukas Zörner.
Following the acquisition, Finleap plans to accelerate hiring efforts and improve back-office processes. Penta will also be able to use Finleap's network of corporate financial partners.
Penta will also collaborate with another Finleap portfolio company called Beesy, which offers digital business banking for freelancers in Italy. Both companies aim to digitalise financial management for companies and micro-businesses. Penta's services will be available in Italy over the Beesy platform, starting Penta's internationalisation strategy. The collaboration will expand both companies' product range and provide a larger customer base.
Penta also plans to release features such as direct debits, loans and international transfers.
Previous funding
Penta joined Startupbootcamp in London in 2016, benefiting from seed funding from the organisation.
In February 2018, Madrid-based Inception Capital led a €2.2m seed funding round for Penta. The VC led another funding round in October 2018 for €7m. In the time between each round the company's headcount doubled.
Company
Penta offers digital business banking, and customers can receive a German IBAN as well as other business banking services. The company was founded in 2016 and claims to have more than 5,500 customers, including AirHelp, Bepro11 and Global Digital Women. The company employed 40 people in October 2018 and is based in Berlin.
