Verdane bolsters German presence with partner hire and new Munich office

European growth investor Verdane has hired Dominik Schwarz from peer EMH Partners, who will be located in its recently opened office in Munich, according to a press release.
Schwarz joins Verdane as a partner with expertise in private equity and the software sector. At EMH, he served as partner and specialised in growth investments in software, healthcare and technology companies including Brainlab, Cleverbridge and Native Instruments. Prior to EMH, he worked at European mid-market GP Chequers Capital, it said.
Verdane’s Munich office, which was opened earlier this year, adds to its existing German footprint in its Berlin location. The new office will allow the GP to provide “even better support to our portfolio companies on their growth path in the future and to quickly identify and take advantage of new opportunities in the German market,” Schwarz said in the statement.
Verdane’s team in the new Munich office includes Sebastian Wintgens, who joined as principal in January from Equistone. Prior to Equistone, he was a managing director for Raymond James’ European technology and services practice, focusing on B2B software.
Other team members in Munich include Christina Schrettle, who joined in 2022 from Oakley Capital, and Judith Kottutz, who joined Verdane in January 2023 from Five Arrows. Verdane’s offices in Berlin and Munich now comprise 23 team members.
The Swedish-headquartered GP currently runs three strategies focusing on European technology deals, as reported. Its Verdane Capital strategy typically acquires several stakes at once from the portfolio of one seller. Verdane Capital XI was registered in May 2022 with a USD 1.17bn target, according to Unquote Data.
The GP also runs Verdane Edda, a strategy that makes investments of EUR 10m-EUR 150m in high-growth companies, as well as Verdane Idun, its debut impact fund that invests EUR 10m-EUR 15m per deal, focusing on technology-backed businesses operating in line with the themes of energy transition, sustainable consumption, and resilient communities.
Verdane has eleven current investments in Germany, including cybersecurity group Hornetsecurity, recommerce group Momox and, most recently, Fashion Cloud, a B2B Software-as-a-Service platform for the fashion wholesale industry.
