
Climate Change Capital et al. in €12m PPC series-B
Climate Change Capital (CCC) has invested alongside strategic investors Siemens Financial Services Venture Capital and British Gas in a €12m series-B round for German smart grid company Power Plus Communications (PPC).
The fresh equity will help establish PPC's position in Germany and achieve market growth in Europe and the Middle East.
CCC already held a minority stake in the business after investing €10m in 2008. The GP will remain the largest shareholder within the investor base. Other shareholders include the company's management, founders and key employees.
Company
PPC is a provider of broadband-over-power-lines (BPL) systems for the transformation of electricity networks into smart grids.
Founded in 2001, the company has been led by Ingo Schönberg (CEO) and Eugen Mayer (COO) since inception. It has offices in Germany and Jordan.
The company's technology is currently used in grids serving more than 500,000 households. Customers include E.ON, WPD and EnBW. PPC is a partner in projects including E-Energy (Germany), the Low Carbon Network Fund (UK) and DG Demogrid (Austria).

Bruno Derungs is a partner at CCC. Siemens' investment partner Dr Detlef Pohl and Petter Allison of British Gas will join Dr Manfred Krüper, Prof Dr Torsten Gerpott and Bruno Derungs on PPC's supervisory board.
