
Route 66 backs simplesurance’s series-B
Route 66 Ventures has invested $8m in simplesurance’s series-B funding round alongside existing investor Rheingau Founders.
A listed American insurance company also invested in the round. Rheingau contributed at least $1m to the transaction.
The company plans to expand into two new European markets this year. The fresh capital will also be used to bolster its product portfolio.
Route 66 is a US-based player that focuses on investments in the financial services industry.
Previous funding
Over the past three years, simplesurance has raised $11.5m in total through several funding rounds. In October 2013, KfW invested via its ERP-Startfonds, which focuses on technology companies in Germany.
Venture capital firms German Startups Group, based in Berlin, and Heilbronn-headquartered Born2grow also injected capital.
Company
Founded in May 2012, simplesurance provides insurance for smartphones, laptops, cameras and tablets. It works with insurance companies to offer specific insurance deals to customers.
With 30 staff, the company is active in Germany and Austria under the brand Schutzklick and in the Netherlands as Klikzeker. It claims to have 600 B2B partnerships in Germany.
