HTGF backs 4 Animals AlsterScience
High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and Innovationsstarter Fonds Hamburg have invested in 4 Animals AlsterScience, a developer of medical treatments for animals.
The fresh capital will be invested in the development of biologic drugs and feed supplements for animals to improve immune function. The company's drug products have already been used to treat viral diseases, tumours, inoculations and cell therapies. They can also prevent cases of resistance to conventional drugs.
HTGF stated the veterinary market is an attractive, but often underestimated, business sector.
Innovationsstarter Fonds cited the wide scope of applications in pets and livestock as the reason behind its investment. It also found the positive initial results for the treatment of severe virus infections in horses convincing.
The two investors backed Dresden-based i3 Membrane in August this year. HTGF is investing via its €304m second fund and aims to initially invest €500,000. The Hamburg fund sponsors research and development work and aims to invest no more than €1m per investment. Its €12m vehicle is backed equally by the City of Hamburg and the European Regional Development Fund.
Company
Headquartered in Hamburg, 4 Animals focuses on drugs and treatments for pets and livestock to strengthen their natural immune systems.

Edith Huland and Conny Cloppenburg are managing directors of 4 Animals. Michael Brandkamp is managing director of HTGF. Dörte Bunge led the deal for Innovationsstarter Fonds Hamburg.
