General Atlantic’s Flixbus bolts on Liinita
German coach company Flixbus, which is backed by General Atlantic, has acquired transportation services startup Liinita.
Flixbus stated that it acquired Liinita with the objective to establish new sources of income besides its core business, which is bus transportation. The company hopes to profit from Liinita's focus on reducing fuel costs and gaining a more efficient infrastructure.
Flixbus merged with its competitor MeinFernbus in January 2015, when General Atlantic took a majority stake in both companies. Since then, the coach company has expanded to Sweden, Denmark and Belgium.
Previous funding
Flixbus backers Holtzbrinck Ventures and Unternehmer TUM also committed funding in January 2015. They first injected growth capital in the business in September 2013.

Founded in 2013 in Munich, Liinita provides transportation services. In its last project, it arranged local transport for customers of a large furniture shop who cannot rely on a car.
