HTGF et al. invest in Subitec
High-Tech Gründerfonds, eCAPITAL entrepreneurial Partners, Fraunhofer Venture and KfW Bankengruppe’s ERP-Startfonds have invested €4.5m in a second round for German cleantech company Subitec, according to reports.
The funding will be used to launch algae photobioreactors internationally and to develop the company's technology.
Subitec received its first round of funding from Fraunhofer Venture and HTGF in 2007. HTGF typically invests €500,000 in seed rounds and a further €1.5m in follow-up investments.
Company
Subitec has developed a flat panel airlift reactor, which generates algae biomass for the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries.
The company was founded in Stuttgart in 2000, following its spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB. It started trading in 2007.
People
Marco Winzer was involved in both funding rounds as senior investment manager at HTGF while Michael Lübbehusen is managing partner of eCAPITAL. Peter Ripplinger is managing director of Subitec.
