DFJ Esprit leads $7m series-B for Moviepilot
DFJ Esprit has led a $7m series-B financing round for movie recommendation and discovery platform Moviepilot.
The round included previous investors T-Venture, Grazia Equity and IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft, and has made DFJ Esprit one of the largest shareholders in the company.
Partner Krishna Visvanathan told unquote" that he was introduced to the company by a personal contact and highlighted DFJ Esprit's industry experience from its previous investment in UK-based Lovefilm.
Visvanathan expressed strong support for the Moviepilot management team and said the investment will be used to establish a formal presence in the US. He did not rule out the possibility of further funding, if required.
Previous funding
Moviepilot has received two rounds of funding to date. The first, in June 2007, was led by Grazia and supported by business angels. The second round of funding, in July 2009, saw T-Venture and IBB joining lead investor Grazia to invest a "low seven-figure sum". T-Venture invested from its Connected Life and Work Fund, while IBB invested from VC Fonds Kreativwirtschaft Berlin.

Moviepilot, founded in 2007, provides online movie recommendation and discovery services, while providing a marketing platform and audience sentiment measurement tools to studios. The company employs around 50 staff in Berlin and London.
