Redalpine backs Jodel
Swiss VC Redalpine and Latvia-based RubyLight have backed the latest funding round of Berlin-based social newsfeed Jodel.
Jodel did not disclose how much it raised. The company will join the portfolio of Redalpine's Capital II fund, which closed on approximately CHF 60m in July 2013.
The company plans a relaunch this year to introduce channels for users with similar interests.
Previous funding
Jodel received seed funding from Global Founders Capital, Atlantic Labs and an undisclosed technology fund during the first quarter of 2015.
In summer 2015, Swiss VC Tenderloin Ventures backed the business.
Company
Berlin-based Jodel was originally founded as tellM in 2013. The app allows user to communicate with others in their vicinity, limited to a perimeter of less than 10 kilometres. Contributions appear in an anonymous feed and users can up- or down-vote and comment on each piece of content.
The app is available in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Nordic region. Jodel claims to have 1 million users.
