Hasso Plattner Ventures has taken the lead in a second funding round for OSN GmbH, the company behind verwandt.de and several other language specific family tree building sites. This multi-mullion investment marks Hasso Plattner Verntures’ highest investment to date. The first funding round’s investor, Neuhaus Partners, joined again on this second round.

The contact was sourced through the investor’s network, with the investors having looked at previous companies that the founders had started. The investor was attracted because of the fast-growing internet start-up’s global potential, as the company is the first company in the German-speaking region to offer a family network service.

The further funding will enable verwandt.de to expand globally. At the moment the platform is available in seven languages, with more languages soon to be added. China and India are cited as interesting markets, but Europe also offers further potential for growth.

OSN GmbH’s Verwandt.de is a fast-growing family network platform that stores online family trees for hobby geneology and family social networking. Since the platform’s launch, more than 1.7 million families have registered their family trees at verwandt.de, which contain more than 20 million individual profiles.
