Peppermint et al. invest in IOP
Peppermint Venture Partners, Enjoy Venture and KFW's ERP Startfonds have invested €1.6m in German eye disease monitoring company Implandata Ophthalmic Products (IOP), completing its series-A funding round.
The investment marked the second closing of the company's series-A round, bringing the total amount raised to €3m. The previous round comprised €1.4m from Hannover Beteiligungsfonds, High-Tech Gründerfonds and a group of private medical technology investors.
The business will use the capital to bring its new diagnostics system to market via a CE trial. IOP plans to expand its clinical studies in Europe, start an IDE pilot study in the US and develop its system for remote glaucoma patient management.
Company
IOP develops systems for monitoring chronic eye diseases such as glaucoma. The company is based in Hannover.
Its first product is an intra-ocular sensor currently being trialled for CE approval. Its system consists of a micro-sensor implanted into the eye and a handheld unit. It enables early diagnosis of glaucoma and monitors its progression and therapy. The company plans to embed its product in a telemedical diagnostic platform in the future, connecting patients with doctors.
IOP was founded in 2010 and employs four staff. The company is looking to hire an additional 2-3 people in the coming weeks.
