Ambienta acquires €20m Oskar Nolte stake
Italian GP Ambienta has acquired a substantial stake in German wood coating company Oskar Nolte for €20m.
The deal marks the second investment from the GP's second vehicle, which closed on €323.5m in November 2014, and its first investment in Germany. Ambienta opened an office in Munich earlier this year in order to focus on DACH investments. It also hired Nico Helling from Vorndran Mannheims Capital to oversee the firm's expansion and to source deals.
Ambienta stated it would help Oskar Nolte strengthen its position by applying the company's coating technologies to other segments, such as finish foils. The GP will also expand the company into emerging markets where solvent-based coatings are still in use, and would consider bolt-on acquisitions. New hires are also planned.
Company
Headquartered in Kirchlengern, Oskar Nolte manufactures solvent-free wood coatings and lacquer systems for industrial applications in the furniture industry. Founded in 1959, the company produces 18,000 tonnes of coatings and other chemical products annually.
People
Guido Pühse is CEO of Oskar Nolte. Nino Tronchetti Proveera is managing partner and co-founder and Ambienta, while Munich-based partner Nico Helling led the deal.
