VizEat raises €3.8m series-A from Eurovestech et al.
VizEat, a platform enabling travellers on the road to dine in locals' homes, has raised a €3.8m series-A round of funding.
Most investors in the round were unnamed with the exception of Eurovestech, although French publication Capital Finance reported that most of them are understood to be anglo-saxon funds.
Eurovestech had already provided a €1m seed round of funding to the Parisian startup back in 2014.
Attempting to position itself as an Airbnb equivalent for dining, the startup recently hired Pierrine Griffiths, the former head of mobile acquisition marketing in Europe at dating site Meetic-Match, to boost its development.
It will use the new funds to further expand its team and accelerate growth, planning to open local offices and recruit country managers in the UK and Germany. It will also look to develop a Chinese version of its website.
Company
Founded in 2014, VizEat offers an online platform that connects those seeking an authentic local dining experience with hosts who are willing to cook for and invite travellers into their homes. Most of the startup's staff are located in Paris, but VizEat also has offices in Spain and Italy.
VizEat has grown from 50 hosts to more than 20,000 across 110 countries. The startup now also offers cooking classes and food tours with locals.
