Weinberg CP launches impact fund
French GP Weinberg Capital Partners has launched its first impact fund, WCP Impact Dév, with a target in the €150-200m range.
WCP Impact Dév is expected to hold a first close in 2019, a spokesperson for the GP told Unquote.
The investment committee for this fund will consist of six members, including Cédric Weinberg, Laurence Roy-Rojo and Catarina Romanelli. The latter was previously head of responsible investment for PAI Partners.
WCP recently started to increase its focus on climate, signing the Initiative Carbon 2020 (IC20). Launched in 2018, IC20 helps private equity investors to manage and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of their portfolio companies.
The GP closed its WCP#3 vehicle on €295m in July this year.
Investors
WCP did not comment whether it will approach its historical LP base, but confirmed that mainly institutional investors are expected to commit to this vehicle.
Investments
The GP will acquire minority stakes in businesses related to social and environmental sustainability, injecting €5-20m tickets per company. Targeting profitable businesses, WCP Impact Dév will look at sectors very familiar to WCP: healthcare, business services, education, food and sport.
