EVentures leads $4m seed round for Sorare
EVentures has led a $4m seed funding round for Sorare, a Paris-based fantasy football game developer.
The round also saw participation from Partech, Fabric Ventures, Semantic Ventures, World Cup Champion André Schürrle, and existing investors.
Partech is currently investing from its Partech Entrepreneur III fund, a vehicle that held its final close at €100m in April 2020.
The fresh capital will be used to scale up Sorare's team and finalise additional licensing partnerships, reaching 150 clubs by December.
Company
Sorare was launched in 2019 in Paris by entrepreneurs Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort, who wanted to use blockchain technology to create a new category in the sports gaming industry. The company has built an online marketplace where users can buy and sell scarce digital collectibles representing football players, ranked based on their performances in real matches.
Sorare claims that it is already profitable, having sold $1m's worth of cards across 50 countries. The trading platform has multiplied by 10x its volume from $30,000 in December 2019 to $350,000 in June 2020.
