Highland Europe leads EUR 60m round for Le Collectionist
Growth capital investor Highland Europe has led a EUR 60m funding round for France-headquartered luxury rental and holiday company Le Collectionist.
Oher participants in the round include experiential luxury specialists OLMA, alongside Famille C (the office of the Courtin and Clarins families), Swiss banks Pictet and Lombard Odier, and the Cheng Family (owner of the Rosewood hotel group). Business angels Nicolas Beraud, Fabrice Grinda, Nathalie Le Roy and Xavier Romatet also participated in the round with the support of existing investor Red River West.
Le Collectionist is mulling acquisitions to consolidate its global position in the luxury holiday industry, according to a press release.
Following this funding round, Le Collectionist is planning on making more than 120 hires in 2023 to develop its central office in Paris and its existing local offices in the South-East and South-West of France, Barcelona, Ibiza and Switzerland. It also plans to open new local offices in London and New York, it said.
The company's global expansion has been supported by past acquisitions, including the Swiss ski chalet rental Bramble Ski and the Vallat group, a real estate and rentals player in the French Alps, according to the press release. It has also acquired the Greek property rental company The Greek Villas and a property management company in Ibiza.
The company is seeking to leverage the increased demand for personalised holiday experiences, with the global luxury travel market expected to exceed USD 50bn in value, according to the press release.
Le Collectionist has tripled the number of new destinations that it offers since 2020 and grown the number of active properties by 3.5x, generating a 5.5x increase in revenue, it said.
Highland Europe has raised more than EUR 1.8bn since 2012 and has invested in companies such as tourism platform GetYourGuide, fitness startup EGym, meal replacement producer Huel, online retail platform MatchesFashion.com, and file sharing service WeTransfer.
The firm is currently deploying capital via Highland Europe Technology Growth IV, which held a final close at EUR 700m in December 2020. The vehicle invests across Europe in software and internet-enabled businesses.
The next fund in the strategy, Highland Europe Technology Growth V, was registered with US Securities and Exchange Commission in July 2022, according to Unquote Data.
