Wildmoka raises €2m from BPI France et al.
French visual content monetisation specialist Wildmoka has secured €2m in funding from BPI France, Apicap, Entrepreneurs Factory and Starquest Capital.
BPI France's contribution was in the form of a loan, while Apicap, Entrepreneurs Factory and Starquest provided an equity injection.
Apicap is a new small- and mid-cap player that was formed via the merger of OTC Agregator and Ardens in late September. The firm's contribution for the round remains undisclosed, but it typically deploys an average of €1-10m into companies whose enterprise value sits in the €1-50m range.
Meanwhile, Parisian VC Starquest, which backed a €1.3m round for technology firm Oridao alongside BPI France in late October, usually invests upwards of €150,000.
The fresh funds will finance Wildmoka's expansion worldwide. The strategy, initiated in early 2015, recently resulted in partnerships with Microsoft, telecoms business AT&T and a US-headquartered TV station.
According to French publication Capital Finance, the changes should push Wildmoka's turnover past the €1m mark by year-end, with plans to double the figure in 2016 and enter the €40-60m region within the next five years.
The round is the second in France in recent months for a visual content monetising specialist: in mid-September, Alven injected $1.4m in seed capital into Deepomatic, a startup that links images with buyable products.
Company
Founded in 2013, Wildmoka develops content-enriching technologies allowing television and online broadcasters to monetise visual material. The business contextualises videos with data, comments and interactions, and creates links between television and devices such as smartphones and tablets. Headquartered in Sophia Antipolis, a technology park located in south-eastern France, the company expects to end 2015 with more than €1m in revenues.
People
Apicap's work on the deal was led by managing partner Alexandre Rossoz. Entrepreneurs Factory was represented by CEO Gilles Lioret, Starquest by associate director Emmanuel Gaudé. Cristian Livadiotti and Thomas Menguy co-founded Wildmoka.
