Ardian-backed Anios acquires Deren
Ardian portfolio company Laboratoires Anios has secured an 80% stake in Turkish medical disinfection company Deren.
Details regarding the value of the investment remain undisclosed. Market sources place the stake retained by Deren's management at 20%.
This is the first foreign acquisition by Ardian-backed Anios, which also bought French endoscope cleaning and disinfection business Soluscope in April 2014. The transaction was thought to be valued at less than €25m and involved a fresh equity injection from Ardian.
The GP acquired a majority stake in Anios from French multinational Air Liquide in December 2013. The management buyout also saw CEO Betrand Letartre and deputy CEO Thierry Letartre invest in the business.
Already present across the Turkish network of private hospitals and clinics, Laboratoires Anios was attracted by Deren's position in the country's public healthcare sector.
The Lille-based disinfection solution provider intends to use Deren's knowledge of the Turkish market to boost its international growth.
The company is looking to generate 50% of its turnover outside of France by 2020, with further acquisitions being considered across South America and Asia later this year, according to market sources.
Company
Founded in 1898 and based outside Lille, Laboratoires Anios provides disinfection products. The company is present in 80 countries and operates in several sectors including healthcare, food processing, cosmetics, accommodation and catering.
Employing a workforce of 700, Anios owns production sites across France, Italy and Argentina. The company most recently reported revenues of around €200m.
Founded by Mahmut Özdemir in 2003, Deren offers disinfection services across the Turkish network of public hospitals. Headquartered in Istanbul, the business employs 40 people and most recently generated an estimated TRY 15m in revenues.

Bertrand Letartre and Thierry Letartre are CEO and deputy CEO of Laboratoires Anios, respectively. Mahmut Özdemir is the founder of Deren.
