Robust first quarter activity in the Nordic region
The inaugural Nordic Private Equity Index published in association with KPMG reveals the Nordic buyout market to have maintained its momentum in the first quarter of 2011.
Ten buyouts were recorded in the first quarter of 2011 compared to nine in the same period last year. The total value of deals in Q1 2011 has also remained largely on par with that recorded a year earlier.
In terms of early-stage and expansion capital deals, the first quarter of 2011 has been strong, with Q1 activity levels slightly higher than in the same period last year. The total value of these deals has also doubled compared to the previous year.
While the Nordic region saw a strong recovery in 2010 in terms of deal activity, the market is being tested by macroeconomic uncertainty. The Nordic Private Equity sentiment survey suggests that private equity practitioners remain cautiously optimistic for increasing deal flow in the region.
