
Balderton, Index raise $8m for Rebtel
Balderton Capital and Index Ventures have led a $8m funding round for Stockholm-based voice-over-internet phone service Rebtel.
Rebtel intends to use the funds to build a digital bank aimed at migrant workers.
Including the latest round, the startup has raised a total combined funding of $16m for its new banking endeavour. It currently offers global unlimited calls to 56 countries for $10 a month as well as an on-demand job programme for migrant workers in Miami and Houston. The company is expected to bring its digital banking offering to market in Q4 2018.
Previous funding
Index Ventures led a $20m series-A funding round for Rebtel along with Benchmark Capital in September 2006. The funding was aimed at expanding business development and marketing efforts, and accelerating expansion into more countries around the world.
