VC-backed Mercell acquires Aksess Innkjøp in Norway
Viking Venture-backed Mercell Group has acquired Norwegian company Aksess InnkjУИp, a digital procurement service.
Aksess Innkjøp provides a cloud-based platform for the public sector and their vendors, digitising all stages of a procurement process.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
It is understood that Aksess Innkjøp is backed by KapNord Fund, which previously had a 75% ownership of the company. The fund invests in small and medium-sized businesses in northern Norway. It was established in the summer of 2006 and has a lifecycle until 2021.
Mercell, which provides an online tendering platform for public procurement processes, was acquired by Viking in 2018. The VC reportedly invested around NOK 50-100m for a 30% stake in the business.
With the acquisition of Aksess Innkjøp, Mercell aims to solidify its presence in its customers' value chain, and benefit from a number of product synergies.

Founded in 2008, Aksess Innkjøp has developed a cloud-based platform for the public sector and their vendors to digitise the procurement process from announcement to purchase. Its solution is used by 23 municipalities and 14 government agencies in the Norwegian market. The company employs 10 staff.
