Inventure et al. in $3m round for Yoogaia
Finnish VC Inventure has taken part in a $3m funding round for Espoo-based interactive yoga studio Yoogaia, alongside Nokia Growth Partners, Point Nine Capital and Sanoma Ventures.
Yoogaia is planning a global launch of its application for Apple mobile devices in September. The investment will assist with the launch, as well as help Yoogaia's continued international expansion, grow the company's team and further develop its mobile offering.
Since Yoogaia last raised funding in October 2014, the company has opened yoga studios in London and Hong Kong, and claims to reach 50,000 users in 50 countries.
Previous funding
Yoogaia first raised money through the crowdfunding platform FundedByMe in July last year, netting around €100,000.
This was followed by an Inventure-led seed round of €500,000, with the VC contributing around €300,000 and angel investors making up the balance.
Company
Based in Espoo near Helsinki, Yoogaia offers subscription-based fitness instruction by webcam and video, allowing customers to train in their own homes.
Founded in 2013, the company's offering includes live and recorded classes in yoga, pilates and kettlebell. The company plans to release more fitness activities next year.
People
Inventure director Ekaterina Gianelli represented the VC, while Point Nine was represented by Nicolas Wittenborn. Walter Masalin is a principal at Nokia Growth and Jussi Kallasvuo is an investment manager at Sanoma. Mikko Petäjä is the founder and CEO of Yoogaia.
