Narrative receives $8m in funding round
US-based Khosla Ventures has led an $8m funding round for Swedish wearable camera start-up Narrative, alongside existing investors Passion Capital and True Ventures.
The investment brings the total funding raised by the company since it was founded two years ago to $12.2m.
The fresh capital will be used to grow the company's presence in the US, through expansion of sales in the market, as well as by opening an office in San Francisco. Additionally, the funding will be used to expand Narrative's team across several roles.
Khosla partner Keith Rabois will join Narrative's board as part of the deal.
Previous funding
Narrative, then called Memoto, raised $550,000 on Kickstarter in 2012, 11x its funding goal. After rebranding to Narrative, the company received $3m in a funding round led by True Ventures, alongside LDV Capital and Passion Capital.
Company
Founded in 2012, Narrative produces a small, clip-on camera that can be attached to clothes. The five-megapixel camera, Narrative Clip, takes pictures at set intervals as well as on demand, and lets users view and organise the images on accompanying Android and iOS apps.
Based in Stockholm, the company employs more than 14 people, and Narrative's users have uploaded more than 100 million photos since the Clip was launched in January 2014.
People
The company's team of founders includes Martin Källström, Björn Wesén, Oskar Kalmaru, Sebastian Björkelid, Erik Hampusgård and Simon Pantzare.
Keith Rabois is a partner at Khosla, while Om Malik is a partner at True Ventures and board member of Narrative.
