Bain Capital, FSI to bid for Serie A – report
Private equity firm Bain Capital and Italian alternative investment house FSI are understood to have taken part in a bid for Italian football league Serie A.
Bain Capital made a €3.4bn preliminary offer for a 25% stake in Serie A. The bid, which, according to Bloomberg was tabled last Thursday, would value Serie A at almost €12bn. Bain Capital is being assisted by investment bank Nomura, according to Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
This bid would surpass the offer made by CVC in May. The private equity firm is negotiating the acquisition of a stake of around 20% for €2.2bn, seeking a 10-year contract from the 2021/2022 season and valuing the business at €10.8bn. It was reported last month that CVC had secured an exclusive negotiation window until the end of June.
More recently, Il Sole 24 Ore reported that Italian firm FSI had shown interest for a minority stake in Serie A, but it is unclear how much it has offered for the business.
