Paine's Suba Seeds buys Brotherton
Paine & Partners-backed Italian vegetable and legume seed producer Suba Seeds Group has acquired US-based competitor Brotherton Seed.
According to a statement, Jerome Brotherton, managing director of Brotherton Seed, will continue to work at the company as a full-time consultant under Suba's ownership, and Brotherton's entire team will join the Suba platform.
As part of the deal, the company purchased the US-based competitor through its North American subsidiary Suba Seeds USA.
Previous funding
In November 2012, Quadrivio acquired a 52% stake in the business from the founding family while the company's founder and chair Augusto Suizzi retained a 15.36% stake and Giuseppe Tumedei, the company's CEO, acquired a 11% stake.
More recently, Paine wholly acquired the business for €80m via its fourth fund, Paine & Partners Fund IV, in November 2015. The SBO saw Quadrivio fully exit the business.

Established in 1974 and headquartered in Longiano, Suba produces speciality vegetable and legume seeds. The business has operations in Italy, France and the US and employs 200 people. In 2014, the company posted a turnover of €46m.
