
Zamit Capital backs Science Bits
Zamit Capital has invested in Barcelona-based science education platform Science Bits.
The investment is understood to amount to around €2.5m.
Zamit is a growth capital vehicle dedicated to the Spanish market, launched by Barcelona-based financial group GVC Gaesco in November 2019. The fund acquires minority stakes and deploys equity tickets in the €2-6m range, targeting businesses with high-growth potential and strong management. The vehicle has raised €40m so far.
Science Bits intends to use the fresh financing to strengthen its market position in Spain and boost its international expansion, primarily in Latin America and the US.
Previous funding
VenturCap – a fund managed by GVC Gaesco – and MNext invested in the startup in 2015.
Athos Capital and Capitana Ventures Partners led a €2.5m funding round for Science Bits in 2018, alongside Institut Català de Finances, Ona Capital and Smartech Capital.
Company
Established in 2012 and based in Barcelona, Science Bits provides a digital platform to help science teachers engage with their students. It offers multimedia interactive content to develop an inquiry-based, learning-by-doing method, as well as complementary material and training tools.
The platform is available in Spanish, Catalan and English. It is used by around 3,000 science teachers and more than 160,000 students.
Science Bits generated EBITDA of around €1m from revenues of €2.5m in 2019.
