Q-Impact Fund increases target to €50m
Qualitas Equity has increased the target size of its impact investment fund Q-Impact to €50m.
The vehicle was launched at the beginning of 2019 with a €40m target and reached a €27m first close in January 2020.
Around 70% of the capital raised in the first close has been already invested across seven Spanish companies.
Q-Impact has a dual scope: offering a market financial return to its investors, with a target IRR of around 8%; and contributing to solving environmental issues and developing solutions to address social challenges.
"We all need to get involved and take immediate action to improve the social and environmental situation," said partner Pablo Valencia. "Through impact investing we can mobilise funds to invest profitably and also obtain measurable social and environmental benefits. Aligning profitability and social impact is not only possible, it is necessary."
The fund's strategy focuses on social and environmental challenges in Spain, including youth unemployment (which is three times the EU average); people at risk of poverty and exclusion (more than 12 million people in Spain); people with disabilities; depopulation of rural areas (which affects nearly 7,000 rural towns throughout Spain); energy efficiency; and pollution reduction.
In addition to Q-Impact, Qualitas also manages Q-Energy, which invests in renewable energy, and Q-Living, which specialises in affordable rental housing.
Investors
The fund has an LP base mainly composed of Spanish family offices, high-net-worth individuals and some institutional investors.
Investments
Q-Impact invests in companies able to provide a positive and measurable social and environmental impact, operating in a wide variety of sectors, including education, social inclusion, circular economy and energy transition.
The fund makes growth investments of €2-5m.
The fund has already made seven investments: Un Inicio, an industrial kitchen that employs young unemployed people at high risk of exclusion; Auara, a producer of fully recycled bottles, which also promotes water projects in developing countries; Robotix Hands on Learning, a specialist in tech education, which fosters technical vocations in young students; Linkia FP, an online training and learning provider; Perfecta Finance, a solar assets specialist; Talento y Experiencia, an employment centre and training provider for people with disabilities; and Menorca 2020, a development project of hybrid solar plants on the island of Menorca.
