Meridia exits food ingredients producer Sosa
Meridia Capital has sold its stake in Spanish food ingredients producer Sosa Ingredients to minority shareholder Savencia Gourmet.
Meridia acquired a stake in Sosa in August 2016. Subsequently, Savencia Gourmet, which is part of listed dairy company Savencia Group, became a minority shareholder in the business via a capital increase, with the aim of developing Sosa's commercial presence in the international gourmet food market.
Under Meridia's ownership, Sosa consolidated its market position, increased its production capacity and built new production facilities.
This is the second exit inked by the GP's debut fund, Meridia Private Equity I, a €105m vehicle dedicated to investments in Spanish companies. The fund sold its stake in pet care specialist Kipenzi to Peruvian family office Emefin in December 2019.
Company
Established in 1967, Sosa produces food ingredients including colourings, flavourings, seasonings, jams, confits, sauces and caramelised nuts for the gastronomy, pastry and bakery segments.
The company is headquartered in Moià, near Barcelona, with a manufacturing plant in Navarcles.
Sosa Ingredients employs 150 staff and exports nearly half of its production, primarily to France, Italy, the UK, Germany, Japan and the US.
