Ambienta finalises third fund deployment with Gruppo Spaggiari Parma acquisition
Italy-based environmental sustainability-focused Ambienta has finished deploying its EUR 635m third fund with the acquisition of educational software group Gruppo Spaggiari Parma.
Ambienta will hold a majority stake in the company, alongside Chairman Pier Paolo Avanzi. Avanzi led Spaggiari in its transition from an education publishing house to a school software provider, according to a press release. CEO Riccardo Agostini will continue his role and invest significantly in the transaction, it said.
The investment is in line with Ambienta’s focus on pollution reduction and resource efficiency for its companies, it said, given the fact that Spaggiari’s business model focuses on paper usage reduction and the digitalisation of schools.
Under Ambienta, Spaggiari will have the potential to consolidate the educational software sector through acquisitions, as well as growing organically, it said.
Spaggiari is the last platform investment from Ambienta’s Ambienta III, which held a final close in 2018, according to Unquote Data. The third vintage now encompasses nine platforms. Its other recent investments include the acquisition of sustainable childrenswear brand Lässig last November, as reported.
The GP is now deploying equity via Ambienta IV, which held a final close on its hard-cap at EUR 1.55bn last summer, as reported. The strategy will continue its focus on acquiring mid-cap European companies that can deliver positive environmental transformation and sustsinability across sectors including industrials, technology and consumer.
