Ambienta buys sustainable kids wear brand Lässig in SBO
Ambienta has acquired a majority stake in Germany-based Lässig, a private equity-backed sustainable baby and kids products company.
The founders and investors Arcus Capital and BE Beteiligungen will remain on board with a significant stake in the business, according to a press release.
Ambienta invested in the company via its private equity flagship fund Ambienta III, a GP's spokesperson told Unquote. The vehicle held its final close in May 2018, hitting its EUR 635m hard-cap, according to Unquote Data.
The GP plans to further support Lässig’s internationalization, the company’s ongoing expansion to other European markets such as France and the Benelux, on the back of its established presence in the DACH region. The Italian sustainability-focused sponsor is also seeking to drive the digitalization of sales, processes and operations, according to the press release.
Mergermarket reported in October that Arcus Capital and BE Beteiligungen, which owned the business since 2019, had agreed on a sale to Ambienta. The exit followed a sale process run by ox8 Corporate finance, with the asset marketed off FY22 EBITDA of around EUR 10m, as reported.
Lässig’s use of renewable and recycled materials, such as organically cultivated cotton for two thirds of baby clothes, increase its products’ durability and makes it more resource efficient. The company also supports farmers in India to switch from traditional to organic farming practices and has partnered with recycled plastics suppliers to manufacture sustainable products, ranging from diaper bags to school bags.
Ambienta, which held a final close for Ambienta IV in February on its hard-cap of EUR 1.55bn, intends to expand its sustainability approach to further asset classes as part of its future growth, Unquote reported. The GP is managing over EUR 3bn in assets with a focus on investing in private and public companies driven by environmental trends and whose products or services improve resource efficiency or pollution control.
