Bridgepoint in talks to acquire WSL
Bridgepoint is in talks to acquire Women's Super League (WSL), England's women's football competition, from the Football Association (FA), according to a Sky News report.
The firm has proposed to acquire a significant minority interest in an entity to be established that would take ownership of the commercial rights to the competition.
Bridgepoint is currently investing from its Bridgepoint European VI vehicle, which closed on €5.7bn in December 2017. The fund was 15% deployed as of December 2019, and is looking to invest tickets of €125-500m in mid-market European companies with enterprise values of €200m-1bn.
The report said the 12 member clubs of the WSL, including Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, would also take stakes in the new company.
The Premier League last month revealed it was in negotiations to take over the league.
