Octopus to launch £100m healthcare-focused fund
Octopus Ventures has announced its intention to launch a ТЃ100m healthcare-focused fund.
The institutional fund will target global investors and will focus on early-stage healthcare technology companies, particularly in the series-A stage. It will reserve follow-on capital for further growth rounds. Octopus Ventures will be the cornerstone investor in the fund.
The firm's typical investment is from £1m for seed-stage companies to £10m for series-B funding rounds.
In conjunction with the announcement, the firm has hired a healthcare investment team from TenX Health, including Joe Stringer, Pooja Sikka and Shamik Parek. Stringer and Sikka previously founded EY Ventures, leading the firm's health and social care portfolio.
The fund will invest in Europe as well as in some emerging markets.
The firm's most recent institutional fund, Octopus Zenith Opportunities III, closed on £83m in April 2019. Previous investors in Octopus's funds include Seligman Private Equity Select and the BP Pension Fund.
