Advent and Bain in £2bn RBS deal
Advent International and Bain Capital are set to acquire the Global Merchant Services operation of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in a deal worth ТЃ2bn, according to reports.
The deal will generate £900m profit for the bank, and is set to be announced in conjunction with the first-half results for RBS today. RBS is expected to receive £1.6bn from the investors for the credit card payment processing business, with the bank retaining a small stake.
It is believed that £1.4bn will be paid up front, with £250m being deferred to a later date. The acquisition of GMS would be the largest deal in the UK for almost three years, but lower than the rumoured £2.5bn price tag mentioned last month.
