NBGI appoints food & drink industry veteran as senior adviser

UK-based NBGI Private Equity has announced the appointment of Tim Kelly – who has previously worked for Hovis, Coca-Cola Enterprises and Guinness Bass Import – as a senior adviser.
Kelly will join a panel of senior advisers for NBGI and will focus specifically on the food manufacturing industry. His duties will include providing advice during the origination, acquisition, growth and exit stages of NBGI's portfolio companies in this sector.
Kelly has previously worked as COO of NYSE-listed wine and spirits company Constellation Brands and COO at Rank Hovis McDougall, where he was part of the management team that oversaw the flotation of the company in 2005.
Additionally, Kelly has worked at Coca-Cola Enterprises Europe, as a marketing director at Diageo plc, and as president of Guinness Bass Import USA. He currently sits on the boards of Burts Potato Chips and Defra.
NBGI has begun increasing its focus on the support services, healthcare and food manufacturing industries and is in the process of hiring a senior advisory board to provide industry expertise and advice on the acquisition and exit of portfolio companies in these sectors.
At the start of this month, the firm hired former Allied Healthcare CEO and Rentokil Initial senior executive Sandy Young as a senior adviser on the panel.
The GP's current portfolio companies in the food manufacturing sector include the cake division of McCambridge, which was acquired for £23.5m in 2009, and Pasta King Ltd, which traded hands for £13m in a 2009 MBI (partially exited).
