CD&R in potential Balfour and Rentokil deal
Clayton Dubilier & Rice is in talks over a potential merging of the office maintenance business of Balfour Beatty and Rentokil Initial.
According to reports, CD&R has already entered into initial talks with Rentokil.
Rentokil's facilities management unit is believed to be worth around £400m. It is understood that Balfour's WorkPlace facilities could fetch around £200m.
Rentokil is clearly reviewing its business following its recent sale of its City Link division to Better Capital for £1 in April this year. Reportedly, Rentokil said earlier this year that it would be open to selling its UK-based facilities management unit in an effort to increase its international business.
CD&R declined to comment.
The asset class has shown a fondness for facilities management companies as more and more businesses continue to outsource non-core activities. Notably, EQT owns Danish facilities management giant ISS, which was nearly purchased by trade buyer G4S in November 2011 in a £5.2bn deal. However, plans were later scuppered by reluctant shareholders.
