VC firms back $8m series-A for Drop Kitchen
San Francisco-based Alsop Louie Partners has led an $8m series-A funding round for Dublin-headquartered kitchen software developer Drop Kitchen.
Frontline reinvested in the round and was joined by WI Harper Group, a China- and San Francisco-based VC firm specialising in cross-border investments.
Irish celebrity chef Ross Lewis also took part in the financing, which brings the total investment in Drop to just under $12m since inception.
The fresh capital will be used to broker new partnerships with appliance manufacturers, as well as continue product development.
In August 2016, Drop announced a partnership with Bosch that signalled a change of strategy from developing its own smart-kitchen products to focusing on creating software for integration with existing manufacturers' devices. It has also announced a similar partnership with GE Appliances.
The company previously designed a connected kitchen scale, which is still available but will no longer be Drop's focus.
The company simultaneously announced that Stewart Alsop of Alsop Louie will join the board.
Previous funding
Frontline and Innovation Works led a $2m seed funding round for Drop in October 2013, with participation from PCH VegasTechFund and WI Harper.
Company
Founded in 2012 in Dublin, Drop makes software for connected kitchen appliances. Its own connected appliance, the Drop scale, interacts with the Drop recipe application to make interactive recipes, scale quantities and suggest replacement ingredients.
