Balderton and Heavybit in $8m Pusher series-A
Tech developer Pusher has raised $8m in a series-A funding round led by Balderton Capital.
The round was also backed by Heavybit, a San Francisco-based VC that helps developer companies scale up. The London-based startup will use the fresh capital to open an office in San Francisco and to finance further product development.
Previous funding
In June 2010, Pusher received an undisclosed amount of seed capital from Right Ventures. In June 2011, Passion Capital, Boox and MI Ventures et al. invested $1m in the company.
It also received $2.5m in venture debt from SaaS Capital in 2016.
Company
Established in 2010, Pusher is a developer that provides tools and cloud infrastructure that other developers use to add real-time functionality to applications. This includes chat, notification and dashboard functions. Based in London, it currently employs 60 people and aims to have a team of 30 in the US by the end of the year, initially based in the offices of Heavybit.
Currently, the New York Times uses Pusher for updating its realtime news feeds, while Mailchimp uses it for internal collaboration tools, and DraftKings for updating its realtime leaderboards.
